Welcome to MedStudy’s CME web page. We understand that the needs of each physician are unique, but that you have a common goal that is two-fold:
1) To pass your certification or recertification exam, and 2) By pursuing an effective studying strategy, gain knowledge and improve clinical competency.
MedStudy activities and products are designed to help you do both.
Accreditation / Designation Statements MedStudy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. MedStudy designates the educational activities described on this website for their respective maximums of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim credit only commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity (one hour = one credit).
To qualify for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™, the content of an activity must be scientifically rigorous, practice-based, current, and unbiased. The content must be guided by documented educational needs as identified by evaluations and surveys by physician users, expert opinion, practice profiles, peer reviews, general and specific self-assessment reviews, and other means. At MedStudy, we are committed to these principles, priorities and practices in our CME Program.
How to Apply for AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM All MedStudy resources furnish the user with a CME application as part of the bound print material. (For software format of Q&A products, the CME form is accessed within the program and can be printed from there.) On this application, the user certifies by signature how many credits s/he has earned (1 hour = 1 credit) up to the total credits allowed for each product. The application process is an honors system, without any formal “test” to be taken. Each product has its own CME application and mandatory evaluation form, and each application/evaluation must be accompanied by a $40 application/processing fee. This is all detailed on the CME application form. (Note: The only exception is that CME credit processing fees are included in the registration fee for MedStudy Intensive conferences and ABIM Recertification Review courses.) CME certificates will be sent (preferably e-mailed) within 6-8 weeks after applications are received. Call 1-800-841-0547 if you need to receive your certificate more quickly.
If you have lost the CME application form that accompanied your product(s), please call 1-800-841-0547. A copy of the appropriate CME application will be e-mailed to you.
A transcript of your participation in MedStudy-sponsored CME activities is available by calling Customer Service (800-841-0547). MedStudy compiles all CME credits earned for each activity for at least 6 years. Records are updated 6-8 weeks after receipt of documentation of your participation in a MedStudy-sponsored activity.
Important Information about CME credits for MedStudy Products and Programs AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ are available ONLY to the original individual purchaser of the product, bought directly from MedStudy. A product re-sold by another party, even if unused, does not qualify for CME credits. MedStudy understands that some physicians might sell their original MedStudy product after they have passed their Board exam. However, eligibility for CME credit is not transferrable on such resales.
MedStudy’s CME Purpose Statement The primary purpose of MedStudy's CME Program is to encourage and assist physicians in their commitment to lifelong learning and improved medical knowledge and skills competencies through the provision of high-quality, practice-based educational activities, particularly as these competencies pertain to effective preparation for certification and Maintenance of Certification (MoC) Board exams administered by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). Many of our activities are also used as reference resources and "refreshers" for practicing physicians needing to address their individual professional practice gaps by maintaining and enhancing their medical knowledge competencies and more confidently understanding the relationships among subspecialty disciplines toward the goal of making the best diagnostic and treatment decisions based on comprehensive and integrated knowledge.
Learning Objectives As a result of participation in these activities, learners should be able to:
- Demonstrate increased knowledge of Internal Medicine and/or General Pediatrics
- Integrate current knowledge of IM/Peds with information presented
- Identify and remedy areas of weakness (gaps) in knowledge and clinical competencies
- Describe the clinical manifestations and treatment of diseases encountered by the Internist/Pediatrician
- Generate a comprehensive list of differential diagnoses based on a set of presenting signs and symptoms and then effectively narrow the differential diagnosis list by utilizing the most appropriate medical studies
- Experience a greater degree of confidence in preparing for – and taking – the Board examination
- Apply the competence gained through participation in this activity to both a successful Board exam-taking experience and daily practice
Target Audience: Participants in all of MedStudy’s educational activities are those physicians interested in expanding their knowledge in Internal Medicine and/or General Pediatrics, focusing on one’s learning on subjects that are directly relevant to clinical scenarios and associated questions that will be encountered on the ABIM/ABP Board certifying/recertifying (MoC) exams.
Content Areas: The content selected for all MedStudy activities/products is ultimately based on the needs of physician participants, as identified through various evaluation and survey tools, and other resources; developed by authors and/or faculty who are selected because of their recognized expertise; and thoroughly reviewed and edited before distribution/presentation by members of MedStudy’s CME Physician Oversite Council, with support by the CME Quality Improvement Committee and other MedStudy personnel, to ensure that all materials meet ACCME Essentials and AMA PRA program standards and are commercial-free.
